Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Sacred Falls has been included in the 2013 Group 2 Crystal Mile (1600m) final field after trainer Chris Waller opted not to run the Group 1 winner in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m).
The Group 2 Crystal Mile will be run at Moonee Valley at Saturday as race eight at 4.15pm (AEDT) with a field of ten horses set to contest the $220,000 race.
Sacred Falls won the Group 1 Doncaster Handicap (1600m) during the 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival but has failed to recapture that form this spring; finishing fourth in the Group 3 Tramway Stakes (1400m), seventh in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) and eighth in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap.
The O’Reilly entire worked at Moonee Valley yesterday morning alongside Foreteller and Waller said he was good enough to run in the Cox Plate but elected to drop him back in class in the Crystal Mile on Saturday.
“He was another one that we had to make a decision this morning and he worked well enough to run in the Cox Plate but whether he worked good enough to win a Cox Plate is another story,” Waller said.
“We are going to take the easy option with him and he will run in the Crystal Mile on Saturday and then two weeks into the Emirates Stakes at Flemington.
“He has been a little bit slow finding his form this preparation but in the last ten days he has turned the corner.
“Since arriving in Melbourne he has just thrived but prior to coming to Melbourne we had a chance to run him left-handed and he has excelled working in this direction.
“For whatever reason he has just turned the corner and is good enough to win the Crystal Mile.”
Sacred Falls will not have it his own way in the Crystal Mile and will face stiff competition from a number of gallopers backing up from both the Epsom Handicap and the Toorak Handicap.
Guy Walter-trained Toydini was one of the best backed runners in the Epsom Handicap and despite over racing managed to finish an impressive third behind Boban who franked the form when he won the Group 3 Moonga Stakes in amazing fashion last Saturday.
OTI Racing-owned Blackie ran the race of his life to finish third in the Toorak Handicap and will be backing up from that race as will Speediness who made up a great deal of ground late to finish fourth.
Rounding out the Crystal Mile final field are: tough gelding Second Effort, Group 1 winner December Draw, Darren Weir-trained Lord Of Brazil, Tramway Stakes winner Molavio, Patinack Farm-owned Transporter and the consistent Rain Drum.
