Platelet Favourite In 2013 Caulfield Sprint Betting Market

Two-time Group 1 winner Platelet is the favourite in 2013 Caulfield Sprint (1100m) betting markets but a number of other sprinters have been well backed to upset the underrated mare.

Thirteen sprinters are set to tackle the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint at the home of the Melbourne Racing Club this weekend and thus far it has been a very open betting race; with five horses currently available at single figure odds.

Platelet finished her autumn campaign with back-to-back wins in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Classic (1200m) and Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) and after an unlucky first-up run in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) returned to her best form in the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 5.

The Strategic mare will carry the top-weight of 59kg but remains a narrow favourite and is currently available at Caulfield Sprint odds of $5.

The best-backed runner in Caulfield Sprint betting markets has been lightly-built filly Shamal Wind who was upset carrying a heavy weight in the Group 3 Sportingbet Series Final (1200m) at Caulfield last Saturday.

The Dubawi mare started her campaign with an impressive win in the Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1100m) at Caulfield and punters are confident that she will return to that form; with the four-year-old back into Caulfield Sprint odds of $6.50.

Chiaramonte ($6) and Spirit Of Boom ($7) have both raced consistently this campaign but are both chasing their first wins.

Chiaramonte is stepping up in class after finishing third behind It Is Written and Richie’s Vibe in the Testa Rossa Stakes while Spirit Of Boom produced two outstanding runs in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) and Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m).

The inconsistent Pago Rock looked the winner in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m) last weekend but was caught in the final stages of the race by Unpretentious.

The Rock Of Gibraltar gelding is chasing his first win at Group level and is currently available at Caulfield Sprint odds of $9.
