Peron Well Backed In 2013 Tristarc Stakes Betting Market

Classy mare Peron has been well backed to record her first race win this preparation in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Peron ($4.40) has been installed as a narrow favourite in 2013 Tristarc Stakes betting markets after finishing second in her two previous starts this campaign.

The Husson mare resumed with a second place finish behind Driefontein, after being trapped wide in the early stages of the race, in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) and was denied a victory in the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1410m) by a brilliant Fire Up Fifi.

Peron’s biggest competition is expected to come from Group 1 winning mare Red Tracer who resumed with a narrow second behind Sharnee Rose in the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens last month.

Red Tracer finished her autumn campaign with back-to-back wins in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) in Brisbane and based on that form looks good value at her current Tristarc Stakes odds of $4.89.

Peron and Red Tracer dominated Tristarc Stakes betting; with Grahame Begg-trained Bennetta the only other mare in the field at single figure odds.

Bennetta has been far from disgraced this preparation, finishing fourth in the Sheraco Stakes and third in the Golden Pendant, but will need to return to the form that saw her win the Group 2 Light Finger Stakes (1200m) earlier this year to be competitive in this weekend’s event.

The best value in the Tristarc Stakes field is Fire Up Fifi who is available at the very generous odds of $14.

The Robert Heathcote-trained mare produced a fast-finishing effort to win the Blazer Stakes and she has shown throughout her career that she is more than capable of stringing together victories.

Other interesting Tristarc Stakes runners at longer odds are: Kiwi mare Xanadu ($14), veteran mare Steps In Time ($11), the inconsistent Flying Snitzel ($19) and Australian Guineas runner-up You’re So Good.
