2013 Northerly Stakes Final Field Released

While the majority of racing fans will be concentrating on the Caulfield Cup meeting in Melbourne this weekend there are still a number of other major races around the country; with the Ascot Racecourse playing host to the Group 3 Northerly Stakes (1400m) this Saturday.

Headlining the Northerly Stakes final field is two-time Group 1 winner Playing God who returned to the races with a seventh place finish in the Listed Birthday Stakes (1200m) at Belmont a fortnight ago.

Playing God won the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) during the 2010 Perth Summer Racing Carnival and finished third in both the 2011 Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) and Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) before winning his second straight Kingston Town Classic but has failed to find his best form in recent preparations.

The Blackfriars entire race consistently during the winter, finishing fifth in the Group 3 Belmont Sprint (1400m) and fourth in the Group 3 Strickland Stakes (2000m), but will need to improve significantly to win the Northerly Stakes carrying the top-weight of 59.5kg.

Playing God is joined in the Northerly Stakes field by stablemate God Has Spoken who will be returning to the races for the first time since he finished third in the Strickland Stakes in June.

The veteran entire is chasing his first race win since his victory in the 2011 J.R.A. Trophy at Ascot and his first win at Group level since the 2011 Group 2 Cox Stakes (2100m).

Platinum Rocker started her campaign with an impressive victory in the Listed Birthday Stakes (1200m) and will be making her debut at Group 3 level in the Northerly Stakes.

The daughter of Love A Dane has recorded seven wins from just ten career starts and is expected to be a major player during the 2013 Perth Summer Racing Carnival.

Also backing up from the Birthday Stakes will be Vermeer, When We Were Kings and Trustee Brown.

The full 2013 Northerly Stakes final field, barrier draw, jockeys and trainers can be found in the table below.
