2013 The Nivison Final Field Headlined By Driefontein

Classy mare Driefontein will have the opportunity to return to the winners circle in the Group 3 The Nivison (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Driefontein will carry the top weight of the 56.5kg in the Group 3 The Nivison at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Driefontein started her 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with an impressive win in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 14 but finished a disappointing fifth behind roughie Sharnee Rose in the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) a fortnight later.

The Fastnet Rock mare showed plenty of talent as a juvenile, winning her first four starts, but failed to live up to her potential and was beaten as an unbackable favourite in the 2012 Wyong Magic Millions (1200m).

Driefontein will face stiff competition in The Nivison this weekend; with the Chris Waller-trained duo of Hidden Kisses and She’s Clean also included in the final field for the Group 3 event.

Hidden Kisses started her campaign way back in April but has managed to remain in strong form for her entire preparation.

After a couple of unlucky seconds the Hidden Dragon mare broke through for a victory in the Sportsyear Handicap (1200m) at Royal Randwick on August 10 before going on to upset Caulfield Cup contender Royal Descent in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m) at Warwick Farm on August 24.

She’s Clean recorded three straight wins during the autumn and returned to the races with a strong first-up performance in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick; finishing within half a length of impressive winner Arinosa who is expected to contest the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) next weekend.

Arguably the most interesting runner in The Nivison final field is Guy Walter-trained Gamba who will be making her debut at Group level after recording five wins from six career starts.

The Elusive Quality mare started her career with four straight wins at Canberra, Newcastle and Canterbury and suffered her first loss in May before returning to the winners circle with a two lengths victory in the Canterbury Park Handicap on September 25.
