Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Exciting mate Aerobatics showed an impressive turn-of-foot to record her first ever win at Group level in the Group 3 Sportingbet Sprint Series Final (1200m) at Caulfield this afternoon.
Aerobatics dashed to the lead with 250 metres left to run and although she tired badly in the final stages of the race held on to score the biggest victory of her career from Assertive Eagle, who flew home late, and outsider Counted.
Trainer Peter Snowden said that jockey Kerrin McEvoy went for home a little bit early on Aerobatics but was happy that the daughter of Exceed And Excel was able to return to her best form after she missed a run at Moonee Valley two weeks ago.
“He went a little bit too soon, she has a really good 200 metre sprint and Kerrin just got around a little bit too quick,” Snowden said after the race.
“She dashed and she is just a filly that you just have to time her run.
“It is a great effort because she missed a run two weeks ago and it is good to recover like that and Paul (Snowden) has done a good job to get her up as good as she did today.
Aerobatics finished an unlucky seventh first-up in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 14 and Snowden said the he has always been confident that she was in for a strong 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaign.
“Her work has been brilliant; we were bitterly disappointed that we didn’t get to run her at Moonee Valley but we did the right thing by not running her and the result is here today,” Snowden said.
Aerobatics is yet to make her debut at Group 1 level but Snowden believes that if everything goes right for the classy mare she is good enough to compete at the highest level of racing.
“We will just see,” Snowden said when asked about his future plans with Aerobatics.
“There are a couple of nice fillies (mares) races and there is a really big one there during Cup week (the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m)) but her form has got to warrant it,” Snowden said.
“I firmly believe that if circumstances fall right for her she is a definite chance.”
Robert Smerdon-trained mare Shamal Wind was well backed to win the Sportingbet Spring Series Final but struggled under a heavy weight and could finish no better than fourth.
