Open 2013 Edward Manifold Stakes Betting Market

It is a relatively open betting market for Saturday’s Edward Manifold Stakes 2013 at Flemington Racecourse, the three-year-old fillies’ feature featuring a number of livewire chances.

Scheduled as the seventh race on a huge 10 event Turnbull Stakes Day card this year, the $220,000 Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1610m) has drawn a final field of 11.

In the current Edward Manifold Stakes odds four of those are under $10 with Politeness leading the way at $2.90.

Drawn nicely midfield in gate five with Craig Williams to ride the Robert Smerdon-trained Street Sense filly leads markets here and is also a top fancy in futures betting for the $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) on October 16.

She won her opening two starts this time in by easy margins at country meets before coming back to the big city on September 21.

Putting in a stellar effort Politeness finished just three quarters of a length off Gregers in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m), an effort she’s tipped to improve on getting up to the mile for the first time on Saturday.

The other fillies best fancied for the Edward Manifold this year are then:

  • #4 Wordplay ($5.50) – Lightly raced but showing plenty of promise this Anthony Cummings-trained Fastnet Rock filly comes off a brilliant second behind Savvy Nature in the Group 3 Spring Stakes (1600m) at Newcastle and should appreciate getting back to her own kind here
  • #3 Romantic Moon ($6.50) – Deserving of the shorter price, one of the rank runners here the John O’Shea-trained More Than Ready filly has Group 1 experience, is a Group 3 winner from the autumn and comes off two runs against better company when fifth in the Furious Stakes – Tea Rose Stakes double
  • #5 Solicit ($6.50) – Matthew Ellerton’s runner is another daughter of Street Cry on the up, she broke her maiden status at run number two this month at Ballarat then bought that form to Moonee Valley to beat Longchamp Belle last start

For punters after better value again there’s a host of others in the mix that could run down their better fancied rivals including Blue Diamond Stakes minor place getter Godiva Rock ($11), Morphettville Guineas runner-up Star Fashion ($11) and Bel Esprit filly Se Sauver ($13).
