Arinosa Leads 2013 Premiere Stakes Odds

Leading locally-based horseman Chris Waller will saddle-up race favourite in Saturday’s Premiere Stakes 2013 at Royal Randwick with his resuming mare Arinosa well fancied in the markets for the Epsom Handicap Day feature.

Winner of the grey’s race last Crown Oaks Day the now six-year-old daughter of Dash For Cash hasn’t raced since May in Brisbane.

She is tipped to return with a win however taking on a bumper field of 15 other gallopers in the weight-for-age $200,000 Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m).

Drawn in gate eight with Brenton Avdulla, Arinosa boasts an ultra-consistent record winning five of her most recent starts over the past year including the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes – Group 2 Sapphire Stakes over 1200m during the autumn.

Four of her rivals are also under $10 in the Premiere Stakes betting markets with:

  • #2 Pinwheel ($6.50) – Peter Snowden-trained veteran, this eight-year-old Lonhro gelding last ran dead last in the CF Orr at Caulfield but before that was competitive in Perth when fourth in the Winterbottom and second in Moonee Valley’s Australia Stakes in the summer, likes Sydney though and will relish coming back home fresh for this
  • #14 She’s Clean ($7) – Early market mover despite her wide barrier 12 draw, Chris Waller’s Redoute’s Choice mare won back-to-back races at Randwick last season and was far from disgraced when fifth to stable mate Red Tracer in the Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara last time out in Brisbane back in June
  • #3 Decision Time ($8.50) – Clarry Conners’ smart Foreplay six-year-old was a first-up winner of the Group 3 Concorde Stakes here last month before their credible fifth in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) last start
  • #7 Rarefied ($9.50) – Another Snowden chance in this, stakes winner at the track back in April but two subsequent wins weren’t great, goes well fresh though and is a chance to return to form here for

Other longer priced hopes also worth a look in then include the Joe Pride-trained Tiger Tees ($11) and veteran triple Group 1 champ Hay List ($13).

In a surprise move by connections of the injury-prone warhorse, Hay List was to have been ridden by heavyweight hoop Chris O’Brien, replacing regular rider Glyn Schofield, for what could be the galloper’s swansong race.

“If this was to be his last run, it’s fitting Chris gets to ride him,” trainer John McNair told the Daily Telegraph yesterday adding that O’Brien had done lots of previous work with Hay List over the years.

However rival trainer Anthony Cummings refused to let O’Brien off from riding his maiden Best Of The Rest at Newcastle’s provincial Sydney meet on Saturday tearing down O’Brien’s dream to ride Hay List before their retirement.

“I’m pretty disappointed,” O’Brien said.

“I got off four of my rides (at Newcastle), but Anthony has held me to his. I hope it’s a superstar.”

Schofield then is a late alteration and will continue his association with Hay List.
