2013 Flight Stakes Betting – Guelph Odds-On

There are no surprises in the Flight Stakes 2013 betting markets for Saturday’s Royal Randwick clash of the fillies with Peter Snowden’s Melbourne-bound star Guelph opening odds-on favourite to win.

A daughter of Exceed And Excel, Guelph twice beat home the boys at elite level as a juvenile during the autumn and is tipped to have an easier go in her third Group 1 assignment on the weekend.

Drawn ‘wide’ in barrier six of six for the $400,000 Group 1 Coolmore Flight Stakes (1600m), the now three-year-old is $1.45 in the Ladbrokes.com.au markets to win.

Her ATC Sires Produce Stakes – Champagne Stakes double over 1400m and 1600m respectively in April showed she could handle a to class field and the mile without issue.

Saturday will be her third run this time in, Guelph last seen easily accounting for a similar field of five rivals in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on September 21.

While Guelph, also favourite to win the $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 16, is the dominant Flight Stakes fancy there are two other hopes under double figures in betting.

The $3.20 second elect is Tea Rose runner-up Arabian Gold drawn in gate three with Peter Robl to ride.

David Vandyke’s Dubawi filly was one and three quarter lengths off Guelph last time out, but before that won three straight in Sydney including one over the Randwick mile by two lengths during the winter.

Rounding out Saturday’s single figure fancies at $9.50 is then the only one here to defeat Guelph previously, the Anthony Cummings-trained Bound For Earth.

First up the daughter of ill-fated stallion Northern Meteor beat Guelph by the narrowest of margins in a photo for the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m).

They failed to make it two-from-two in the second round however when third in the Tea Rose Stakes.

The remaining three Flight Stakes hopes and their outside prices are then Gai Waterhouse’s She’s Bella ($31) coming off a third in the Listed Reginald Allen Quality (1400m) from last weekend, the Peter Moody-trained Sensibility ($41) and $101 roughie Refer with the inside run from barrier one.
