Betting for the 2018 Group 1 $700,000 Altus...
One of the top fancies for the $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield next month, the Robert Smerdon-trained Politeness is nominated to have her next run this weekend in the Edward Manifold Stakes 2013.
One of four Group races on a bumper 10-race Flemington program for Saturday’s Turnbull Stakes Day, the $220,000 Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1610m) is open to three-year-old fillies.
Attracting 17 nominations this year, the Edward Manifold is also a key lead-up race to the Thousand Guineas held on Wednesday October 16.
While early $2.90 Thousand Guineas betting favourite Guelph runs in Sydney’s Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) this weekend, the $6 third pick Politeness will continue her campaign in Melbourne.
The daughter of Street Sense enjoyed big back-to-back wins this time in at Sale and Seymour respectively before stepping up in class at Caulfield on September 21.
She handled the class rise just fine too when less than a length away third behind Gregers and Marianne in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m).
On Saturday Politeness will be ridden by Craig Williams who will replace the suspended Ben Melham.
The next best fancied Thousand Guineas hope nominated for the Edward Manifold is then the David Hayes-trained Star Fashion ($18), the daughter of Street Cry coming off a second in the Morphettville Guineas.
It’s shaping up as an intriguing edition of the Edward Manifold this year with plenty of smart contenders.
They are all in flying form too including three last start winners.
One is also undefeated with the Peter Moody-trained Metaphorical yet to taste defeat.
The Dylan Thomas filly debuted at Cranbourne with a 1400m win on September 4 and then travelled to Bendigo a fortnight ago, stepping up to the 1500m to carry a hefty 60kg to victory.
The other last start winners are then More Than Ready filly Café Scientific for Mick Price coming off a Bendigo mile victory and Solicit after her third on the trot having beaten Longchamp Belle over 1200m at Moonee Valley on September 14.
Some of the bigger name entries meanwhile include Blue Diamond Stakes third placed Godiva Rock, the John O’Shea-trained Sweet Embrace Stakes winner Romantic Moon coming off a fifth to Guelph in the Tea Rose Stakes and Miracle To Me.
See below for the full Edward Manifold Stakes 2013 nominations with the final field due out on Wednesday along with all the other Flemington Saturday races.
