Trainer Gai Waterhouse was elated to see Rain Drum come back on a winning note after so long away from racing.

“He’s a horse that broke down,” said Waterhouse.

“To win first up is very emotional.

“(The owners have) been patient and they’ve let me take my time with him.

“Anything’s the limit. We’ll just wait and see.”

Waterhouse was also pleased with the effort from Our Dessert Warrior who placed third, and Ashokan, who finished in fourth placing.

“I thought Our Dessert Warrior, who was third, could sneak into the Epsom (Handicap),” she revealed.

Rain Drum was ridden by jockey Peter Robl in today’s 2013 Shannon Stakes and was quick to praise Gai Waterhouse for the win.

“It’s a marvellous training effort,” Robl said.

“He was the strongest on the line.

“So all credit goes to Gai on this occasion.”
