Julienas Tops 2013 Colin Stephen Quality Field & Odds

Gai Waterhouse’s The Metropolitan Handicap-bound Julienas has opened shortie in the markets for their latest spring run in the Colin Stephen Quality 2013 at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

The imported Cape Cross six-year-old has had three runs this time in finishing competitively in all leading up to the $125,000 Group 3 Colin Stephen Quality (2400m) this weekend where they finally get up to a mile and a half.

Their most recent run was third behind Prince Cheri in the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) where they carried the same 59kg topweight they’ve been allocated again this weekend.

Despite the hefty kilos Julienas is well liked to defeat their six rivals, the Colin Stephen field down to just seven following the early withdrawal of #5 Reuben Percival, and sits top of the odds at a quote of $2.90.

Drawn in barrier four, now into three, with Nash Rawiller to ride they are preparing for a shot at the $500,000 Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick Saturday week for which they currently pay $16 to win.

Following Julienas in the Colin Stephen Quality betting markets are then three others under $10 with:

  • #2 Less Is More ($4) – Meets the favourite four kilos better in the weights with 55kg, this David Vandyke-trained French import won the Premier’s Cup at Rosehill last month over the 1800m and was a credible fourth in the Kingston Town last start with improvement to come
  • #3 Wazn ($4.60) – Chris Waller-trained Whipper seven-year-old showed they still had a zest for racing on September 6 when bouncing back from two dead last finishes in August at Rosehill to win the Wyong Cup over 2100m, need to keep that going if they are to break their recent hoodoo at this track
  • #7 I’m Imposing ($6) – Another veteran from Waller’s stables, this Danehill Dancer eight-year-old comes off a Kingston Town fifth so the form is there and are surly a chance again on the 54kg minimum

Rounding out the field and odds are then Waller’s Sinndar stallion Lunayir ($13) who lost their rider in the Kingston Town, the John Hawkes-trained local Polish Knight ($17) and $51 outsider Planet Purple.
