Red Tracer Among 2013 Golden Pendant Nominations

Despite being nominated for two Group 1 races in Melbourne this weekend, Chris Waller’s resuming Tattersall’s Tiara winner Red Tracer is most likely to stay in Sydney for a shot at the Golden Pendant 2013.

Waller nominated the smart Dane Shadow mare for both the Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night and Sunday’s Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield.

However opting for an easier first-up assignment for the now six-year-old, he plans to accept her for the fillies-and-mares $250,000 Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m), formerly the Research Stakes, at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

A race won 12 months ago by the since retired superstar More Joyous, this year’s Golden Pendant nominations feature 12 hopes.

With an outstanding first-up record, Red Tracer is yet to finish out of the top three when resuming and Waller hopes that will still be the case come Saturday afternoon when she races for the first time since becoming a Group 1 winner in Brisbane back in June.

Waller has also nominated for his Dash For Cash six-year-old Arinosa, winner of the Birthday Card Stakes – Sapphire Stakes double in Sydney during the autumn.

Aside from Red Tracer the only other last start winner among the Golden Pendant nominations this year is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Driefontein.

Out to hand their trainer with back-to-back wins in the race, the daughter of Fastnet Rock broke a lengthy winning drought posting their first win since February last year first-up at Rosehill on September 14 taking out the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m).

Also coming via the Sheraco Stakes are Anthony Cummings’ Dark Jewel winner at Scone during the winter Arctic Flight (3rd) and the Grahame Begg-trained Light Fingers Stakes champ Bennetta (4th).

Other notable Golden Pendant nominees then include Guy Walter’s triple Group 1 winner Appearance last seen running a first-up ninth in the Sheraco Stakes, and Peter Snowden’s duo of Aerobatics and Cameo the latter coming off a Tibbie Stakes third at Newcastle last week.

See below for the full Golden Pendant 2013 nominations then head to Ladbrokes.com.au to get in on the weekend’s racing and betting action starting with their $250 bonus sign-up offer!
