Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
This Sunday Group 1 racing goes to Caulfield Racecourse with the 2013 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes which has drawn a bumper 30 entries at nomination stage.
It is an exciting line-up of gallopers too with the $400,000 Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) shaping up as one of the best editions in years.
Among the hopes are two last start winners from premier Sydney trainer Chris Waller’s stables with Boban and Riva De Lago.
Bernardini four-year-old Boban shoots for their third straight this time in after the up-and-comer secured a classy four length win second-up at Randwick last Saturday in the Group 3 Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m).
Their stablemate Riva De Lago meanwhile put an easy 2.5 lengths on their closest rival a fortnight ago to win Rosehill’s Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1400m).
Another top performer in the Theo Marks nominated for Sunday’s class is third placed Your Honour for Greg Eurell, the lightly-raced Niello five-year-old having had just six career starts to date.
There are four other Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes entries that won their latest runs too with the Greg Eurell-trained Hosting, upset $21 Danehill Stakes winner Charlie Boy, the Colin Scott-trained Speediness who has won the Scone Cup and Bobbie Lewis at their two most recent outings, and returning Stradbroke Handicap winner Linton.
The John Sadler-trained Linton is also nominated for the $450,000 Group 1 Moir Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley this Friday night with a decision pending on which race they will kick off their new season campaign in.
Some other hopes coming off good form this time in including the Peter Snowden-trained Bobbie Lewis third placed Albrecht, Let’s Elope Stakes fourth placed Bonaria and the autumn’s Australian Guineas winner Ferlax who ran a nice second to Atlantic Jewel in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 31.
Peter Moody meanwhile will vie for back-to-back Sir Rupert wins following the success of Moment Of Change last year having nominated for the in-form Lidari and Strawberry Boy who resumed last month with a third to their stablemate at Caulfield.
Queensland trainers are also well represented with Rob Heathcote to run his Toorak Handicap winner Solzhenitsyn coming off a Theo Marks second, and Tony Gollan to accept for his Bobbie Lewis runner-up Temple Of Boom.
See below for the complete Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes 2013 nominations with the final field due for release tomorrow at midday.
Betting on all the weekend’s features will be available soon after at Ladbrokes.com.au where first time customers will enjoy a bonus welcome bet valued up to $250!
