Resuming Stars Top Moir Stakes 2013 Nominations

A star studded list of Group 1 performing gallopers make up the 2013 Moir Stakes nominations for this Friday night at Moonee Valley, the majority of which resume racing in the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival feature.

Twelve horses are nominated for this year’s $450,000 Group 1 Moir Stakes (1200m) which runs as an elite level for the first time on the weekend.

Of the dozen entries seven will be first-up if accepted into the final field on Wednesday, including the resuming champ Buffering.

Rob Heathcote’s perennial Group 1 placegetter is doing everything right ahead of their return, their Brisbane based trainer confident this season will be the one the Mossman gelding finally breaks their Group 1 maiden in.

To date Buffering, who easily accounted for their rivals in the Moir first-up last spring when it was a Group 2 race, has contested 16 Group 1 events for nine minor placings.

The most recent was Queensland’s richest race, the $1 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm back in June.

Stradbroke Handicap winner Linton is also set to resume racing in the Moir under the lights at the Valley.

John Sadler’s evergreen Galileo seven-year-old won the Stradbroke in a lovely run up the inside from jockey Nick Hall as a $25 outsider from barrier 16 of 18 and are sure to be at a much shorter price for the weekend as they have a great first-up record.

Among some of the other more notable boys resuming here are then The Galaxy winner Bel Sprinter back in Australia after their second in Singapore’s Group 1 International Sprint in May, consistent Adelaide raider Conservatorium and the Peter Snowden-trained Doomben 10,000 winner Epaulette.

There are also a number of star mares ready to race including the Chris Waller-trained Red Tracer racing for the first time since her Tattersall’s Tiara win in Brisbane during the winter and Gerald Ryan’s Snitzel mare Snitzerland out to improve on a seventh in the Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville from April.

Samaready will also represent the ladies here second-up after Mick Price’s 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes winner resumed with a black type win over 1100m at Caulfield on August 31.

Price will also be represented by the in-form Choisir gelding Le Bonsir coming off back-to-back wins this time in at the track including the Listed Drummond Golf Stakes (1200m) from September 14.
