Aussies Love Sport Leads 2013 Stan Fox Stakes Nominations

The race may have drawn just nine early entries but the Stan Fox Stakes 2013 nominations for Saturday at Rosehill feature some classy three-year-olds including the Gai Waterhouse-trained Aussies Love Sport.

Nominations for the $250,000 Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m), one of five Group races in Sydney this weekend, have been extended until 11:00am (AEST) on Tuesday after drawing under 10 hopes.

One of the likely favourites already however is Waterhouse’s Redoute’s Choice colt Aussies Love Sport who comes off back-to-back 1400m wins.

The first was a 2.5 length effort at Rosehill in August before they rose up in class at Randwick on September 7 to win the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m).

Aussies Love Sport is currently being considered for both the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) in Melbourne on October 12, for which they are rated a $17 chance for at, as well as the $450,000 Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) in Sydney on the same day.

Another Stan Fox Stakes nominee coming via a good Ming Dynasty run meanwhile is John Thompson’s fourth placed Hooked.

The Casino Prince colt backed up from their first-up effort in the Ming at Newcastle last week and were stepped up to the mile when fourth again this time to Savvy Nature in the Group 3 Spring Stakes (1600m).

Thompson has also nominated for the lightly-raced maiden Desk Pop.

The other top-rated chance along with Aussies Love Sport is then the Bart & James Cummings-trained Eurozone.

A one-time favourite for the Caulfield Guineas following three on the trot including the black type Rosebud at Randwick, the Northern Meteor colt suffered a nasty defeat when eighth in The Run To the Rose last month.

They came closer at Rosehill on September 14 however when beaten 3.5 lengths by Zoustar in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at their latest start.

Also in the mix are Anthony Cummings’ in-form Thunder Fantasy who has won their last two on the trot at Hawkesbury and then Newcstle, as well as the consistent Peter Moody-trained Sebring colt Stamina coming off a Rosehill win over Bull Point.
