Guelph Wins 2013 Tea Rose Stakes Ahead Of Thousand Guineas

The three-year-old bounced back from a narrow defeat last start to claim the 2013 Tea Rose Stakes in a dominant fashion in Sydney today.

Guelph won the race by almost two lengths ahead of Arabian Gold, who placed second, and Bound For Earth, who passed the post in third position.

The Exceed And Excel filly has now won five of her nine race starts and has earned more than $1.04 million in prize money during her short career.

Guelph will now go in towards the Group 1 Flight Stakes on October 5, 2013, before running in the $500,000 Thousand Guineas on October 16, 2013.

Trainer Peter Snowden was at the track to watch Guelph’s impressive 2013 Tea Rose Stakes victory and is confident that she will thrive over 1,600 metres in her next two starts.

“The extra motor kicks on. Up to a mile she’s going to very hard to beat,” Snowden said.

“She looks ideal. She’s just thriving in the stables.”

Snowden confirmed that Guelph would have at least two more runs this spring.

“Yeah that’s the plan. Flight stakes here then thousand guineas then we’ll see if we pull up stumps there or go one more,” he said.

Guelph was ridden by jockey Hugh Bowman in the 2013 Tea Rose Stakes and was paying odds of $2.45 to win the race at Ladbrokes.com.au.
