Barbed Takes Out 2013 Heritage Stakes – Randwick Results

The 2013 Heritage Stakes has been taken out at Royal Randwick Racecourse today by Peter Snowden’s Barbed.

Barbed was too good for the field, holding off his competitors as they made a late challenge down the final straight.

The three-year-old won the Listed Heritage Stakes by a head in front of Diamond Oasis, who overcame a lost shoe at the barriers to finish second, and Whittington, who was strong for third.

Barbed has now won both his career starts and has earned more than 79,000 in prize money.

His debut win came in May, when he claimed a $35,000 Handicap at Canterbury in May.

Trainer Peter Snowden was thrilled to see Barbed successfully step up to Group level in the 2013 Heritage Stakes.

“We‘ve been very happy with him this preparation,” Snowden said.

“This was an ideal starting point.

“Roman Consul (Stakes is) a race I always had in mind. As long as he pulls up okay that’s his next run.

“We’ll take one race at a time and see how he goes there.”

Barbed was paying odds of $5.50 to win the 2013 Heritage Stakes at

Should Snowden decide to run Barbed in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes, he will take his place over 1,200 metres at Royal Randwick on Saturday October 5, 2013.
