2013 How Now Stakes Tips & Selections

There is plenty of great racing at Caulfield this Saturday but arguably the most interesting betting race is the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) that features a field full of classy mares.

In 2013 the How Now Stakes will be run as the second heat in the Sportingbet Sprint Series and it will be run as race five on the nine race Caulfield Card, with barriers set to fly at 2.15pm.

Chris Waller-trained Catkins has been well backed since the final field was released earlier this week and is currently the favourite in the 2013 How Now Stakes betting market at Ladbrokes Australia at odds of $4.20.

The Dubwai mare started her 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a second place finish behind Velrosso in the Hurlstone Park RSL Club Handicap (1200m) and was only caught in the final stages of the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) by Group 1 winner Commanding Jewel.

Octavia ($4.60) has also been well-backed to return to the winners circle after she had her winning streak ended in the Let’s Elope Stakes while Peter Moody-trained A Time For Julia ($5.50) will be backing up from the same race.

Hazard ($7.50) will be returning to the races for the first time since May and is the only other horse in the field currently available at single figure odds and Hi Belle ($14) is also worth following at a big price.

#2 Catkins ($4.20)

The four-year-old has been unlucky not to breakthrough for a victory already this preparation and is an excellent chance to record a well-deserved win tomorrow. She should be able to get a lovely run just behind the leader Octavia and there is no horse the quality of Commanding Jewel to run her down this weekend.

#6 A Time For Julia ($5.50)

A Time For Julia is yet to run a bad race in her career and should feature predominately again on Saturday. She will need a bit of luck from an awkward barrier but she is a very safe bet to finish in the placings.

#10 Anabaa’s Legacy ($31)

Anabaa’s Legacy should receive the run of the race just behind the leading pair and will have every opportunity to record a surprise win. At her current odds she is a good each-way and will add a bit of value to trifecta and first four bets.

You can find the best odds for the How Now Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au whether you want to back Catkins or fancy your own selections.
