Markets for the sole Group 2 race on the Underwood Stakes Day card in Melbourne this weekend, the 2013 Thousand Guineas Prelude, are now out with early market mover Politeness leading the betting.
Robert Smerdon’s locally-trained daughter of Street Sense is one of 12 three-year-old fillies making up the final field for this year’s $175,000 Group 2 Schweppes Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) which is set to run as Caulfield Race 7 at 3:35pm (AEST) on Saturday.
Of the dozen hopefuls Politeness tops the Thousand Guineas Prelude odds at a current quote of $3.60 as she heads toward a run in the $1 million Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) back at the track on Wednesday October 16.
Thousand Guineas futures betting is led by the Peter Snowden-trained Guelph ($3.70) who stays in Sydney this weekend for the Tea Rose Stakes.
Politeness meanwhile is equal $6 second favourite for the Thousand Guineas at this stage with Bound For Earth who faces Guelph in the Tea Rose having beaten her first-up last start in the Furious Stakes.
Politeness earned her top spot in the Prelude markets after winning her opening two starts this time in.
First-up she put six lengths on her rivals at Sale before a two and a half length win at Seymour over 1313m on September 5.
Occupying the second line of Prelude betting at $4.60 then are the David Hayes-trained Blue Diamond fourth placegetter Gregers and Kiss A Rose, Peter Moody’s Sebring filly coming up trumps with barrier one and Luke Nolen to ride.
Nolen was aboard for her win on debut at Caulfield in December before Vlad Duric took over for her latest two runs.
One of those was a nice first-up win, also at Caulfield, in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) on August 17 before her brave second to Charlie Boy when taking on her male counterparts in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 7.
Gregers meanwhile has a nice gate two draw to jump from as the Commands three-year-old coming off a fifth in the Danehill at Flemington a fortnight ago, before which they won back-to-back Moonee Valley sprints in August.
The two other fillies under double figures for Saturday are then the Michael Kent-trained Marianne ($8) coming off a win at the track and distance from August 31 and Snowden’s daughter of New Approach Montsegur ($8.50) last seen running third to Thump in the Silver Shadow Stakes.
Others worth a look at longer odds then include stakes winner The Huntress ($12) to be ridden by Glen Boss and John McArdle’s in-form Miracle To Me ($14) who shoots for her third on the trot drawn nicely in gate four.
