Newcastle Cup 2013 Results – Winning Glory Salutes

Winning Glory has survived a fast finish from Lucripetous to win the 2013 Newcastle Cup at Newcastle Racecourse today.

The six-year-old was unchallenged for most of the final straight, however, Lucripetous flew from the back of the pack to go down by a nose.

Peal Of Bellsplaced third in the 2013 Newcastle Cup after also making the top three in last year’s event.

Winning Glory was ridden by jockey Nash Rawiller in the race and was paying long odds of $17 at

The One Cool Cat gelding has now won eight of his 37 race starts and has earned more than $510,000 in prize money during his career.

Winning Glory’s win came on the back of his third placing in the Listed Premier’s Cup at Rosehill Gardens last start.

Prior to that, he posted a convincing victory in the $85,000 St Johns Park Bowling Club Handicap at the same track.

Winning Glory is trained in Sydney by David Payne and today’s win marked the first time her had saluted over the 2,300 metre distance.

Today’s Newcastle Cup run was the eighth of this preparation for Winning Glory, who is not nominated for any of the spring majors this carnival.
