Riva De Lago has swooped down the outside to win the 2013 Sebring Sprint at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse today.
It was the second run this spring for the six-year-old, who placed eighth last start in the Group 3 Show County Quality at Warwick Farm.
Solzhenitsyn finished second in the 2013 Sebring Sprint, while Your Honour flashed home for third.
Race favourite Rain Affair couldn’t sustain the fast pace out front and faded in the final stages of the race.
Trainer Chris Waller was at the track to watch Riva De Lago win the 2013 Sebring Sprint.
“That was a tough race that day at Warwick Farm (last start),” Waller said.
“It was close to a Group 1 field.
“We were concerned regarding Rain Affair being in the race (today).
“(But) beautiful Jimmy Cassidy ride.”
Waller confirmed that Riva De Lago would likely go on towards the Group 1 Epsom Handicap at Royal Randwick Racecourse on October 5, 2013.
“He’s nominated for the Epsom and on the way he raced today I think he can get a mile,” he said.
“He deserves a chance at a handicap Group 1.”
Jimmy Cassidy revealed he would happily partner Riva De Lago once again in the 2013 Epsom Handicap after today’s win.
“(It was a) good training performance by Chris to get him to win second-up,” Cassidy said.
“He really feels like a miler. I wouldn’t be frightened to ride him in the Epsom with no weight.”
Riva De Lago has now won seven of his 26 race starts and has earned more than $500,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.
