A talented line-up of fillies and mares are set to face off in the 2013 Sheraco Stakes this Saturday at Rosehill Racecourse, the field for the Golden Rose Day feature led by triple Group 1 winner Appearance.
Guy Walter’s Commands mare Appearance first hit the big time winning the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) last Melbourne Cup Carnival as a $40 outsider.
She’s since added the Queen Of The Turf Stakes and Coolmore Classic to her Group 1 trophy cabinet, and she returns to the track of those two triumphs this weekend.
Appearance was last seen running seventh to Sacred Falls on a Heavy (10) Randwick track in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) on April 20, Walter hopeful she can bounce back on firmer ground first-up in Saturday’s $125,000 Group 3 Sharp Sheraco Stakes (1200m).
She was originally due to return to racing on August 24 in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) but was withdrawn due to muscle soreness pre-race.
The Sheraco Stakes, due to run as Race 6 at 3:50pm (AEST), drew a final field of 14 for the weekend.
Appearance, drawn in double digits with barrier 10 and Kerrin McEvoy to ride, will carry 59.5kg under the set weights plus penalties conditions which is a very manageable weight for a three time Group 1 champion.
All but three in the field are first-up here.
The trio boating the fitness edge is led by Allan Denham’s General Nediym four-year-old Ichihara in gate two.
Winner of the Gosford Guineas in April Ichihara resumed in the Show County when fifth to Rebel Dane, an effort she can improve on second-up on the weekend.
The others with a run under their belt for the new season are then the Joe Pride-trained Brave Soul by More Than Ready in barrier three and Scott Aspery’s consistent Not A Single Doubt mare Just A Girl.
As for those returning to the track here, two come from the Brisbane stables of Rob Heathcote.
Heathcote will saddle up both Group 3 winner Fillydelphia (barrier four) who will be ridden by Nathan Berry in her first run since a Sunshine Coast Cup second back in January, and Fire Up Fifi.
A Glyn Schofield mount drawn wide in barrier 12, Bradbury’s Luck grey Fire Up Fifi was last seen winning a Listed mile race back home at Eagle Farm during the winter and comes off a good trial at Doomben from the start of the month.
Other notable Sheraco Stakes hopes then include the rails-drawn Light Fingers Stakes winner from February Bennetta, Chris Waller’s The Galaxy fourth placed Dystopia, the Peter Snowden-trained Aerobatics last seen winning the Listed Darley Crown (1300m) at Hawkesbury and Husson mare Peron who won three straight earlier in the year.
