Gai’s Cup Hope Julienas Tops Kingston Town Stakes 2013 Field

An imported galloper nominated for every staying race in Sydney and Melbourne this spring from The Metropolitan to the Melbourne Cup, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Julienas heads a smart filed set to face off in the last on Golden Rose Day this Saturday.

Se to run as Rosehill Gardens Race 8 at 5:10pm (AEST) the $125,000 Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) drew a final field of 15 hopes with Julienas to carry the 59kg top weight.

The Cape Cross six-year-old has won three stakes races down under, most recently the Listed NE Manion Cup (2400m) at Rosehill back in March.

They were outclassed in the Chairman’s Handicap and Sydney Cup in April however finished dead last in both before being turned out for a spell.

Coming back on August 22 they showed improvement with a first-up second to Coup Ay Tee in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m).

Last start the 2013 Caulfield Cup hopeful was seen carrying a massive 61kg to finish fourth behind Wazn (54kg) in the Listed Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) on September 6 when beaten only 1.9 lengths.

Saturday they again give lots of weight away to some class rivals, the second heaviest weighted being the Tony McEvoy-trained Pelicano (56kg) who was last seen running fourth in the Listed Slickpix Stakes (1700m) at Caulfield two weeks ago.

Following them are then just two other runners over the 54kg minimum with the Hawkes-trained Polish Knight (55.5kg) on the rails with Peter Robl to ride, and the David Vandkye-trained Less Is More (55kg).

Imported Beat Hollow gelding Less Is More enjoyed a stakes win at the track last start when winning the Listed Premier’s Cup (1800m) here on August 31 when carrying only half a kilo less.

There are two other last start winners in the mix then with Less Is More’s stablemate Prince Cheri and Lucripetous vying for their third on the trot.

Prince Cheri is another hope for the $2.5 million Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) in October paying $31 in the latest markets for the Melbourne classic following the progressive Lando four-year-old’s last start over 1500m at Rosehill a fortnight back.

Other notable Kingston Town Stakes hopes then include David Payne’s consistent galloper Honorius out wide in gate 14, Kelso Wood’s Brisbane raider Grey Assignment and Waller’s British import I’m Imposing.
