Long John Wins 2013 Henry Bucks Best Dressed Stakes

Long John has won the 2013 Henry Bucks Best Dressed Stakes at Flemington Racecourse today Saturday September 7, 2013.

The three-year-old scored an easy win ahead of Weinholt, who finished second, and stablemate San Diego, who placed in third.

Long John has now won four of his five race starts and has earned more than $160,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.

The Street Cry gelding has already won the Listed Anzac Day Stakes, and is now able to add the 2013 Listed Henry Bucks Best Dressed Stakes to his repertoire.

Co-trainer Paul Snowden was at the track to witness Long John’s 2013 Henry Bucks Best Dressed Stakes win.

“He’s improved a hell of a lot,” Snowden said.

“We knew he’d run well.

“He looked the winner a long way out.

“It’s just really good to see him put away a really classy field.

“It was a really solid win in the end.”

As to whether Long John would go to the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas on October 12, 2013, Snowden admitted that it was up in the air.

“It’s a decision the team is going to have to make,” he said.

Snowden was also thrilled with third place-getter San Diego’s efforts at long odds first-up from a spell.

“I think he’ll be heading a lot further than Long John,” the trainer said.

“He’s just all legs and he’s just a massive big frame of a horse.

“So it all looks good for him as well.”

Jockey Steve Arnold was aboard Long John for today’s race win.

“He just travelled great around the corner,” Arnold said.

“There’s still improvement in him.

“He’s got a good racing pattern; he can race on the speed.

“He mightn’t be the best horse but he’s just so versatile.”

Long John was paying odds of $5 at Ladbrokes.com.au to win the 2013 Henry Bucks Best Dressed Handicap.
