Charlie Boy Takes Out Danehill Stakes 2013 – Results

Charlie Boy has proven too good for the other three-year-olds down the straight in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington Racecourse today September 7, 2013.

The Myboycharlie colt was first-up in today’s Danehill Stakes after a last start seventh placing in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes during the autumn.

Charlie Boy won the race by almost a length in front of Kiss A Rose, who placed second, and Éclair Big Bang, who rounded out the placings in third.

The Gerald Ryan-trained galloper was paying odds of $21 to win the 2013 Danehill Stakes at

Co-owner Chris Ward was at the track to watch Charlie Boy begin his spring preparation today.

“He’s significantly improved during his three-year-old year,” Ward said.

“He was travelling so well during the run.

“I really think he’s going to get up around a mile and that’s where he’s going to be at his best.”

“So we’ll kick on to the Guineas.

“From day one he’s just shown plenty of ability.

“You can’t ask for anything better than winning a race like that on a day like today.”

Jockey Michael Rodd was aboard Charlie Boy for his 2013 Danehill Stakes win and believes he will be a genuine chance in the 2013 Caulfield Guineas on October 12.

“He’s obviously got a lot of ability,” Rodd said.

“My bloke went to have a little bit of a bludge on me, so I had to get stuck into him.

“He’s got the quality there and that’s what he’s down here for obviously.

“He’s just put his hand up at the right time and he’ll be peaking come Guineas Day.”
