Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune is a short-priced favourite to record his fifth straight victory when he contests the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday.
The imported stayer will step up to Group 1 level for the first time in the Makybe Diva Stakes that will be run as Race Six at Flemington Racecourse, with the barriers set to open at 3.30pm.
Puissance De Lune has opened as a $2.05 favourite after he resumed with an impressive first-up victory in the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 17 and according to trainer Darren Weir has come out of the race in excellent condition.
While Puissance De Lune is the clear favourite, the market mover is Lloyd Williams-owned Sea Moon who has been backed in from $7 to $5 with Ladbrokes ahead of his Australian racing debut.
Sea Moon is one of the highest rated European horses to come to Australia and he defeated a number a number of talented stayers, including Dunaden, Fiorente, Red Cadeaux and Jakkalberry, to win the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes (2414m) during the 2012 Royal Ascot Meeting.
The Beat Hollow entire has not been seen at the races since he finished eighth behind Solemia in the Group 1 Prix De l’Arc De Triomphe (2400m) but has impressed with exhibition gallops around Melbourne in the lead-up to his first-up assignment.
Peter Moody-trained Manighar is the only other horse in the Makybe Diva Stakes field that is available at single figure odds and is currently available at $9.
The Triple Group 1 winner has not been seen at the races since he finished second behind Quintessential in the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) but looks to have returned to his best from after a poor start to his 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival campaign where he beat home only a single runner in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) and Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m).
Other interesting runners currently available at longer odds are:
#7 December Draw ($11) – The veteran gelding will be returning to the races for the first time since he finished at the tail of the field in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) last December.
#3 Mr Moet ($14) – The Group 1 winner performed well during the 2013 Melbourne Festival Of Racing and will begin a Melbourne Cup campaign on Saturday.
#12 Waldpark ($21) – The German Derby winner finished a narrow second behind equine superstar Novellist at his last start in Europe and has impressed trainer Anthony Cummings since arriving in Australia.
