No Foreteller in 2013 Chelmsford Stakes Final Field

Leading trainer Chris Waller will saddle up six runners in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday but Group 1 winner Foreteller will not be one of them.

Foreteller was included in the initials nominations for the Chelmsford Stakes but Waller has made the decision to send the imported galloper to Melbourne to take on Puissance De Lune in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.

Despite the absence of Foreteller, Waller still has a very strong hand in the Chelmsford Stakes with Metal Bender, Beaten Up, Kelinni, Moriarty, Bayrir and Hawkspur all set to compete.

Mental Bender (barrier twelve), Beaten Up (barrier ten) and Kelinni (barrier eleven) have been given no favors by the barrier draw but the highly rated Bayrir (barrier four) has drawn ideally for his second race start in Australia.

Bayrir made his Australian racing debut with a second place finish behind Coup Ay Tee in the Listed Winter Challenge (1500m) and has performed at the highest level of racing right around the world, producing competitive performances in the Group 1 Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe (2400m) and Group 1 Hong Kong Vase (2400m).

Waller will be hopeful that one of his charges can turn the tables on Linda Laing-trained Veyron (barrier three) who scored an upset victory over a Waller dominated field in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) on August 24.

The Thorn Park gelding is a five-time Group 1 winner in New Zealand and should appreciate the step-up to the mile, where he has recorded the majority of his major race wins.

Gai Waterhouse will be represented in the final Chelmsford Stakes field by Glencadam Gold (barrier five) who was scratched the morning of the Warwick Stakes due to a fever.

The progressive stayer performed poorly during the 2013 Autumn Racing Carnival but the Waterhouse team is confident he can recapture the form that saw him win the Group 3 Newcastle Gold Cup (2300m) and the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) before finishing an impressive sixth in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) during the 2012 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

The Chelmsford Stakes final field is rounded out by Sneak A Peek, Tremec, Lightinthenite, Aliyana Tilde and Crafty Irna.
