Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Champion two-year-old Guelph will make her return to the races in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday and is set to face a tricky first-up assignment after drawing barrier ten in the eleven horse field.
Guelph started her autumn racing campaign with impressive wins in the MyBoyCharlie At Vinery Plate (1000m) and Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) and after slightly disappointing performances in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) and Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m), returned to his best form to win both the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) and the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m).
After such a lengthy campaign trainer Peter Snowden was worried that Guelph may have peaked as a two-year-old but based on her performances at trackwork and in a barrier trial at Rosehill Gardens he is confident that she has returned in excellent condition.
Although she is expected to fire first-up the daughter of Exceed And Excel will face a tough task against a strong field, especially after the less than stellar barrier draw.
Peter Moody-trained Kiss A Rose will jump from barrier one when she defends her unbeaten record in the Furious Stakes.
The Sebring filly recorded a victory on debut at Caulfield in December last year and returned to the races with a narrow win over a strong field in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 17.
The Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) is the major 2013 Spring Racing Carnival target for Kiss A Rose and Moody will get a better idea how the three-year-old stacks up against the leading fillies when she faces Guelph this weekend.
Another last start winner set to contest the Furious Stakes is Patinack Farm-owned Thump who resumed with a fighting victory over Sweet Idea and Montsegur in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm on August 24.
The daughter of Red Ransom broke her maiden with the victory but will face a much stronger field when she jumps from barrier seven this weekend.
Gai Waterhouse has given herself plenty of chances to win the race for a fourth time, with Greytfilly, Shahad and Forever Love all set to step-up to Group 2 level, and is the only trainer in the field to previously have had success in the opening race of the Princess Series.
The Furious Stakes final field is rounded out by Twilight Royale, Romantic Moon, Dream Forward, Bound For Earth and Tulla Touch.
