Exciting 2013 Tramway Stakes Final Field Confirmed

There are a number of exciting races taking place at Royal Randwick this Saturday but the Group 3 Tramway Stakes (1400m) could be the strongest of them all with seven Group 1 winners included in the final field for the race.

Group 1 winners Shoot Out, Sincero and Sacred Falls have all been allocated the top weight of 60.5kg and are confirmed to begin their 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaigns this weekend.

Sincero (barrier fourteen) will be returning to the races for the first time since he finished ninth in the 2012 Cox Plate (2040m) after he was ruled out of the 2013 Autumn Racing Carnival due to injury while Shoot Out (barrier one) was a surprise entrant for the Tramway Stakes as he was expected to begin his campaign in the Chelmsford Stakes (1600m).

Sacred Falls (barrier nine) will need to be at his very best to be a winning chance in the Tramway Stakes as he will have to carry seven and a half kilograms more than he carried in his breakthrough Australian victory in the Group 1 Doncaster Handicap (1600m) at Randwick in April.

Team Cummings-trained mare Norzita (barrier two) is one of the other Group 1 winners in the field and based on her performance in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) will be one of the leading chances this Saturday.

The daughter of Thorn Park flew home late to finish third behind Rebel Dane and Title and  the four-year-old will have a clear weight advantage on Shoot Out, Sincero and a number of the other leading chances in the Tramway Stakes.

Brisbane trainer Kelso Wood will have three runners in the race, with Queensland Guineas winner Sizzling (barrier twelve), veteran gelding Belltone (barrier thirteen) and progressive galloper Someday all included in the final field.

All three performed fairly first-up in the Show County Quality, with Sizzling the most impressive working home strongly late, but Wood will be looking for an improved second-up effort.

Lloyd Williams-owned Fawkner will return to the races for the first time since his third place finish behind Black Caviar in the 2013 Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) and was a surprise inclusion in the 2013 Melbourne Cup nominations that were released yesterday.

Another possible Melbourne Cup contender is Royal Descent who will jump from the outside barrier in the Tramway Stakes as she looks to go one better than she did in her first-up defeat to stablemate Hidden Kisses in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m).
