Guelph Headlines Furious Stakes Nominations

Exciting filly Guelph is set to make her return to the races in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

The champion-two-year-old was one of thirteen fillies included in the nominations for the $175,000 Furious Stakes – the first race in the lucrative Princess Series in Sydney.

Guelph has not been seen at the races since she finished her juvenile campaign with back-to-back victories in the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival.

The daughter of Exceed And Excel won a barrier trial at Rosehill Gardens on August 20 in soft fashion but did enough to indicate to trainer Peter Snowden that she had returned as a three-year-old in excellent condition.

“She has come back in great order and hopefully she is going to pick up where she left off last season,” Snowden told RSN.

Leading trainer Gai Waterhouse is set to have a strong hand in the Furious Stakes with Forever Loved, Greytfilly and Shahad all included in the nominations.

Forever Loved impressed on debut with a very comfortable victory in a maiden at Canterbury while Greytfilly and Shadad will be making their first appearances at the races since competing at Group 1 level during the 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Chris Waller is represented in the Furious Stakes nominations by Champagne Cath who won a barrier trial at Warwick Farm on Friday.

The Street Sense filly has been upset as a short price favourite in both her starts this preparation and was one of the first horses beaten in the Dooleys Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 17, a performance that had many racing experts questioning if the three-year-old was injured.

Twilight Royale and Thump are both set to contest the Furious Stakes after resuming in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm on August 24 while Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) winner Romantic Moon will return to the races for the first time this preparation.

You can find the full Furious Stakes nominations in the table below, with the full filed to be released on Wednesday.

A number of these fillies have been included in the nominations for the Group 1 Thousand Guineas and you can find the futures betting market for the race at – home of the famous $500 bonus bet!
