Atlantic Jewel was the $2.20 favourite at to win the 2013 Memsie Stakes and didn’t disappoint the punters with her effortless win.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh couldn’t hide his nerves prior to the running of today’s  2013 Memsie’s Stakes.

“We’ve got her here that’s the main thing. We wouldn’t change anything,” he said.

“She’s vulnerable today but if she ever gets back to where she was it’s going to be exciting.

“We haven’t had any problems with her at all.

“Hopefully she can get it all back together.”

Once the race was run and won, Kavanagh was able to truly celebrate Atlantic Jewel’s return to form.

“I’m speechless I really am,” he said.

“There’s plenty of options and I’m just going to enjoy this moment for the time being.

“She’s got so much improvement in her it’s frightening.”

Jockey Michael Rodd was thrilled to be back aboard the undefeated Atlantic Jewel.

“We know how good she is,” Rodd said.

“The only thing today that was going to beat her was bad luck or a bad ride.

“When you get her out in the open she just relaxes.

“As soon as I got to the half mile and I was in that position the race was over.

“She lets go so quick. It’s an amazing feeling to be on top of her.

“If there was something in front of her I’m sure she would have chased it.

“It’s a relief more than anything.

“There’s a lot of fun ahead in the spring carnival.”

The talented mare is nominated for the $3 million Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 26, 2013.

Atlantic Jewel has now won all eight of her race starts and has earned more than $1.13 million in prize money during her stellar career.
