While much of the attention at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday will be on the host of staying stars resuming in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m), there are also six undefeated three-year-olds nominated for the day’s major support race – the H.D.F. McNeil Stakes 2013.
There were a total of 15 nominations taken for this year’s edition of the $150,000 Group 3 H.D.F. McNeil Stakes (1200m) which serves as a nice Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival lead-up for three-year-olds possibly heading towards the $500,000 Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on Victoria Derby Day in November.
Of the 15 early entries in the McNeil six are yet to taste defeat including the headline hopeful Miracles Of Life.
Daniel Clarken’s Adelaide-based filly has won all four of her career starts to date, the daughter of Not A Single Doubt last seen taking out the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes at this track and distance back in February.
She showed she was ready to return and strut her stuff again, this time as a three-year-old, with a blistering six and a half length trial win back home at Morphettville on August 12 over the 1000m.
If Clarken decides Miracles Of Life has what it takes to step up to the mile she’ll go to the $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) on October 16.
The other shorter distanced option however is the $750,000 Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) on open company at Moonee Valley 10 days after the Guineas.
The other big name McNeil Stakes nominee this year is then the Tony Vasil-trained Prince Harada who is the early second favourite ($6) to win the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) back here on October 12.
The other unbeaten youngsters in the mix are then the Peter Moody-trained Kiss A Rose who won the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) first-up, Orion, Pyrrolic and last start Queen Adelaide Stakes winner on debut Za Moulin Rouge from the stables of former Melbourne Cup winning trainer Mark Kavanagh.
Outside of those looking to retain their flawless records if accepted are plenty of other talented up-and-comers including the David Hayes-trained Churchill Dancer, their well-tried stablemate Fast ‘N’ Rocking who resumed with a second to Safeguard in the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) on August 17, and Moody’s consistent Exceed And Excel colt Thermal Current.
