Mick Price’s former star juvenile Samaready is one of the topline nominations for the The Heath 1100 Stakes 2013 which runs at Melbourne’s Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday as part of the Memsie Stakes Day action.
A total of 18 early entries were taken for this year’s $135,000 Listed The Heath 1100 Stakes (1100m) including last year’s emphatic Blue Diamond Stakes winner Samaready.
The now four-year-old More Than Ready mare resumed off a lengthy four month spell on August 18 when regular rider Craig Newitt guided her to a fourth behind Elite Elle in the Listed Quezette Stakes at this track and distance.
With the Quezette run on a Heavy (10) Caulfield course however, Price expects improvement second-up from Samaready as she gears up for a big Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival sprint campaign.
Another exciting entry resuming off a lengthy spell is the untapped Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes-trained Jolie Bay.
A daughter of Fastnet Rock, Jolie Bay won the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) last October which eventually led to her close second behind Nechita in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington in November.
She races for the first time since this weekend if accepted for The Heath.
Team Hawks have also entered for Mossman seven-year-old Neeson.
Formerly prepared by Joe Pride who trained them for highlights including their 2011 Premiere Stakes win and close fourth when beaten under a length in last year’s Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes.
The veteran spent a year on the sidelines before returning in June for their new trainer running a close second in the Listed Juen Stakes (1200m) at Randwick when carrying a big 60.5kg weight compared to the winner She’s Clean’s 55kg.
Also with multiple entries is Sydney’s Peter Snowden with General Nediym mare Anise last seen running second to Satin Shoes in the Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m) at Scone in May, and his Darby Munro Stakes winning four-year-old Chiaramonte.
Other runners coming off some good recent runs then include the Peter Moody-trained Angus Armanasco Stakes winner Meliora, That’s The One coming off a second in the Regal Roller Stakes here earlier in the month and Tony McEvoy’s six-year-old Pocket Rockets who has won four of their past six starts.
Adding further class to The Heath 1100 entries this year is the inclusion of Stuart Webb’s multiple Group 1 winning mare Yosei who was last seen bumming out in the Tattersall’s Tiara back in June, a Group 1 Brisbane race she won back in 2011.
That was also the now six-year-olds’ last time in the winner’s stall.
See below for the full list of The Heath 1100 Stakes 2013 nominations with the final field due for release on Wednesday.
