2013 McKenzie Stakes Results – Cauthen Wins On Way To Guineas

Cauthen is back on track for the Caulfield Guineas after winning the Listed 2013 McKenzie Stakes at Moonee Valley Racecourse today.

The three-year-old placed second to Clevadude over 1,000 metres last start, however, was too good for the field today over six furlongs.

Cauthen has now won two of this three race starts and has earned more than $90,000 in prize money during his career.

The Darci Brahma colt has been brought over from New Zealand by trainer Andrew Campbell specifically for the 2013 Caulfield Guineas on October 12.

He is also nominated for the $3 million Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 26, 2013.

Shamus Award was strong in the 2013 McKenzie Stakes to finish second, while Long John was beaten for the first time and placed in third.

Campbell was full of relief after Cauthen’s 2013 McKenzie Stakes win.

“That’s the real Cauthen,” he said.

“It’s pleasing to see him do that today.

“That was a perfect ride.”

Cauthen will run in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude at Caulfield on September 29, 2013, before his Group 1 Caulfield Guineas run.

“We’ll go to the Guineas Prelude,” Campbell said.

Jockey James McDonald produced a faultless ride aboard Cauthen in today’s 2013 McKenzie Stakes.

“He’s a big strong horse,” McDonald said.

“He got in a lovely rhythm today.

“He was probably looking for that 1,400 (metres) to a mile.

“He’s a good colt. That edge was off him.

“His racing manners were superb.

“He’s big (and)powerful, he’s go the breeding on his side and he’s got the right trainer so hopefully things are bright for him in the future.”

Cauthen was paying odds of $2.60 to win the 2013 McKenzie Stakes at bookmaker.com.au.
