Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Broken has flown home to win the Listed Carlyon Stakes at Moonee Valley Racecourse today August 24, 2013.
The seven-year-old beat home a quality field that included last start Group 1 winning mare Commanding Jewel.
Broken won the race by a neck ahead of Chosen To Fly, who placed second, and Golden Sunshine, who rounded out the placings in third.
The seven-year-old was paying odds of $14 to win the 2013 Carlyon Stakes at bookmaker.com.au.
It was the second time Broken has won the 2013 Carlyon Stakes, claiming victory in last year’s race with today’s jockey Nicholas Hall on board.
Trainer Darren Weir admitted he was shocked by today’s race win, despite Broken’s last start success in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap.
“Full credit to the boys down at Warrnambool. They’ve done a terrific job with him,” said Weir.
“He’s been boucning out of skin so we knew he’d run well but I tell you that’s a good surprise.
“It’s good to win it again. He’s been a great little horse.”
Weir indicated Broken could contest the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis Quality at Flemington Racecourse on September 7, 2013.
“There’s a race at Flemington in a couple of weeks. He loves the straight,” he said.
“He’ll present in good order again hopefully.”
Nicholas Hall was thrilled to win the Carlyon Stakes for the second time in two years aboard Broken.
“I don’t know if I’m good with this race or this horse but it’s two from two,” Hall said.
“Luck is when preparation meets opportunity and that’s what happened today.”
