One of the key support races on the Warwick Stakes Day program on Saturday will be the three-year-old fillies’ facing off in the 2013 Silver Shadow Stakes, betting tips and exotic selections for which are detailed below.
A small field of just eight hopes is engaged to face off in the $175,000 Group 2 Coolmore Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) which will set the better fillies up for some of the Sydney and Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival majors.
The clear Silver Shadow Stakes betting favourite at a current quote of $2.20 is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Sweet Idea.
Drawn in gate seven with Tommy Berry to ride the daughter of Snitzel races for the first time since her third behind stablemate Overreach in the iconic $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) in April.
That came one run after her Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) success in the wet, and she’s also been competitive against class rivals much firmer ground proving she can handle all conditions.
Looking at the Silver Shadow Stakes odds Sweet Idea’s main dangers look to be the Peter Snowden-trained Montsegur ($4) who was a luckless first-up sixth last Saturday at Caulfield and the resuming Group 2 VRC Sires Produce Stakes winner Twilight Royale ($4.60).
So are these three the ones to lock into your Silver Shadow Stakes 2013 trifecta?
Or is there value to be found further down the markets from the likes of Greytfilly ($9) who’s had two lead-up trials or even recent trial winner Thump ($12) racing without the blinkers here?
#2 Twilight Royale ($4.60)
Bjorn Baker’s local Testa Rossa filly has class and bucket loads of it which we think will see them through here. Won back-to-back in summer before the spell including a good effort over the boys in the VRC Sires Produce. Good Sydney form too and won first-up at Warwick Farm on debut in December beating Fuerza in the Inglis Nursery Stakes. Hugh Bowman rides and have had two trials including a credible third here last Friday so fit and ready to fire.
#1 Sweet Idea $2.20)
Favourite for a reason and it’ll be close on the line is our tip. Nicely-bred and living up to potential if juvenile season is to go by. Won on debut then finished runner-up in their next three runs including in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) in Brisbane and their long neck second in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast – both on Good (3) tracks. Showed she could do it on wet ground too when winning the Silver Slipper in Sydney and running third in the world’s richest juvenile race held on a Heavy (9) and Slow (7) respectively. Two trials before this, last was a seventh though so might need this run.
#7 Killcareless ($21)
Adds value to the trifecta here, but think has promise and are ready to show it off again here. Also prepared by Bjorn Baker locally so gets the home track advantage. More Than Ready filly broke maiden status on August 14 at Warwick Farm over 1300m when wearing blinkers for the first time. Should be sharp and better for that run confidence wise. Goes back in distance so that’ll help her rise in class.
