Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Gary Portelli’s local Group 1 performer Rebel Dane has opened top of the betting to win this Saturday’s Show County Quality 2013 at Warwick Farm Racecourse.
Yet to be nominated for any of the upcoming spring majors, the four-year-old season of California Dane stallion Rebel Dane is wide open and kicks off on the weekend in the $125,000 Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m).
Brining the Warwick Stakes Day program to a close as Race 8 at 5:00pm (AEST), the Show County Quality has this year drawn a big final field of 16 hopefuls.
Early favourite of those is Rebel Dane paying a short $3 to begin their spring with a win.
Undefeated over the distance, Rebel Dane is also yet to taste defeat first-up having won both of their previous runs when resuming giving them a nice advantage here.
They haven’t raced since their 10th to Pierro in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill in early April.
Despite how the placing looks on paper that was a good run as they were beaten only two and a half lengths, and it followed on from a fourth behind It’s A Dundeel in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) at Warwick Farm.
Their two other autumn runs were both crackers with a first-up win in the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) followed by their nose away second behind subsequent George Ryder winner Pierro in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) in the mud.
They come into Saturday’s race off a winning trial at the track from last month and will be ridden by the hoop aboard for that, big race specialist Glen Boss.
Following Rebel Dane in the Show County Quality odds are then just two other single figure fancies with 2013 Cox Plate-bound mare Norzita ($6.50) and Kelso Wood’s Group 1 winning Brisbane raider Sizzling ($7).
Carrying the 57kg second biggest weight, the Bart & James Cummings-trained Thorn Park Norzita steps out for the first time since her third to Sacred Falls in the Doncaster back in April.
That came one run after she secured her second Group 1 title in the Vinery Stud Stakes and she won over this distance first-up last time in at Moonee Valley so goes well fresh.
Sizzling meanwhile is also resuming here and racing as a four-year-old for the first time, the Snitzel stallion looking to improve on their seventh in the Stradbroke back home in June.
There’s plenty of value to be found further down the markets too with a number of genuine hopes at nice prices.
Among the better credentialed double-figure chances are the likes of the Guy Walter-trained triple Group 1 winning mare Appearance ($10) with the 59kg topweight to overcome, Gosford Guineas winner Ichihara ($12), one of Wood’s two other runners Someday ($12) who won at the Sunshine Coast last start and Joe Pride’s Danzero seven-year-old See The World ($13).
