Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
In a competitive betting market for one of the early Group races at Warwick Farm Racecourse on Saturday, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Sweet Idea will resume racing as the punters’ pick in the Silver Shadow Stakes 2013.
The three-year-old fillies’ race, which serves as a nice lead-up to the Princess Series of races that culminates with the $400,000 Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on October 5, runs as Race 4 at 2:20pm (AEST) and has drawn eight hopefuls.
Heading the latest betting markets for the $175,000 Group 2 Coolmore Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) this year is Snitzel filly Sweet Idea set to make her three-year-old debut here after a promising juvenile campaign.
Yet to finish out of the money in her six starts to date, Sweet Idea has continued to step up in class and rise to the occasion so far which is what Waterhouse will be hoping she does this season too.
Notable efforts from the progressive youngster include a second at Doomben in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m), her long neck second to Real Surreal in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic and her win in the wet in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) over the boys in March.
Of course she’s best known for her third to stablemate Overreach in the classic $3 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) last start on April 6.
With two trials behind her, a small field to face first-up, a nice record when fresh and gun hoop Tommy Berry in the saddle the bookies have Sweet Idea as the short $2.20 favourite in Silver Shadow Stakes betting.
There are a number of other livewire chances out for an upset as they head towards a possible Melbourne run in the $1 million Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on October 16.
Second favourite and market mover is the Peter Snowden-trained Montsegur backed into $4 for their second-up start for the new season.
The Darley-owned daughter of New Approach returned to racing off a lengthy five month spell last Saturday finishing three lengths away sixth to Kiss A Rose in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m).
She’s on a short back-up then as she looks to return to form on Saturday, the Group 3 Breeders Stakes winner getting some early love from the punters.
The other single figure fancies are then the consistent Twilight Royale ($4.60) racing for the first time since their narrow Group 2 VRC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) win over Shamus Award at Flemington in March, and Waterhouse’s other runner Greytfilly ($9) who was previously prepared in Queensland by Robert Heathcote.
