The Gai Waterhouse-trained filly Sweet Idea dominates a small but quality field of three-year-old fillies set to face off in the traditional Thousand Guineas lead-up, the 2013 Silver Shadow Stakes at Warwick Farm Racecourse on Saturday.
Running early in the afternoon as Race 4 at 2:20pm (AEST), the $175,000 Group 2 Coolmore Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) has this year drawn a final field of just eight hopes.
Heading the field is Snitzel filly Sweet Idea who has drawn out in gate seven with Tommy Berry to ride.
A winner of two of their six starts to date, most notably the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) in the mud at Rosehill in March, Sweet Idea was last seen running third to Overreach in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 6.
After Overreach disappointed in a trial this week however the form around the Golden Slipper has been under fire, and Sweet Idea also failed to impress at her latest trial when seventh over 1000m at Randwick on August 2.
Waterhouse will also be represented in the Silver Shadow on Saturday by her Feorcity grey Greytfilly who has drawn nicely in gate two with Tim Clark booked for the ride in their first run since the former Robert Heathcote-trained filly finished near the back of the field in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) in late March.
Also with dual Silver Shadow acceptors is the now Warwick Farm-based Bjorn Baker.
Baker’s top chance is Twilight Royale out in gate eight with Hugh Bowman to jump in the saddle of the Testa Rossa filly who won back-to-back races before the break.
She was an easy two and a half length Mornington winner in February before going to Flemington to beat home the boys including runner-up Shamus Award in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on March 9.
Twilight Royale will then be joined by stablemate Killcareless, the lightly raced More Than Ready filly having just her fourth career start, the last of which she broke her maiden status here at Warwick Farm on August 14 over 1300m.
Also lightly-raced are the likes of the Gerald Ryan-trained Snitzel’s Jewel who has the inside alley in her favour and the Clarry Conners-trained daughter of Exceed And Excel Fare Well racing for just the third time following two promising runs.
Rounding out the field are then likely roughie of the bunch Thump (barrier four) who was 10th in the ATC Sires Produce last start as a $151 outsider, and the exciting Peter Snowden-trained Montsegur who won the Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Flemington in March before her luckless sixth in the Quezette at Caulfield last Saturday.
