Gai Waterhouse’s Golden Slipper minor place-getter Sweet Idea has been nominated to kick off her Spring Racing Carnival campaign at Sydney’s Warwick Farm Racecourse this Saturday in the Silver Slipper Stakes 2013.
A total of 11 promising three-year-old fillies make up the early entries for this year’s $175,000 Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m), with nominations extended until 11:00am (AEST) on Tuesday.
The top-rated nominee is Snitzel filly Sweet Idea, winner of the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) in the mud last March.
That came one run after her close second to Real Surreal in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast.
She backed up in the world’s richest race for juveniles and was far from disgraced when three lengths away third behind their fellow female stablemate Overreach in the $3 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 6.
Since then Sweet Idea has had two trials, the most recent a below par seventh over 1000m at Randwick at the start of the month.
Despite that hit-out she’s likely to open one of the top fancies in the Silver Shadow Stakes as she heads towards a Melbourne campaign targeting the $500,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on Wednesday October 16.
Futures Thousand Guineas betting markets have Sweet Idea rated a $19 chance, odds led by the Peter Snowden-trained Guelph.
There are then five other 2013 Thousand Guineas-bound fillies in the Silver Shadow nominations, the shortest-priced of which is another Snowden-trained filly with Montsegur ($18).
The daughter of New Approach won the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) at Flemington in March before resuming with a disappointing sixth over the weekend behind Kiss A Rose in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m).
There’s a chance she’ll come back to Sydney and back-up just seven days later now in the Silver Shadow.
The other better fancied Thousand Guineas chances who are a chance of running on Saturday are then Bjorn Baker’s Group 2 VRC Sires Produce Stakes winner Twilight Royale ($26) and the Anthony Cummings-trained Diva Dee ($31).
Other notable Silver Shadow nominations include the Darren Smith-trained Dream Forward coming off a first-up win at Canterbury from July and the nicely-bred Snitzel’s Jewel.
Check out the current entries below and stay tuned to view the official Silver Shadow Stakes 2013 field once released on Wednesday morning.
