Quezette Stakes Winner Kiss A Rose 2013 Thousand Guineas Bound

Peter Moody’s progressive filly Kiss A Rose has secured her shot at the 2013 Thousand Guineas in October after flying home to narrow defeat a crack field in Saturday’s $135,000 Group 3 Lister Quezette Stakes (1100m).

A nicely-bred daughter of Sebring out of Redoute’s Choice mare Hurl, Kiss A Rose won her race debut back in December and remains undefeated after her black type win on the weekend.

Returning to the track of her inaugural success at Caulfield she was able to just hold out the Peter Snowden-trained favourite Metastasio ($4.40), coming off a first-up second at Moonee Valley, by a nose in the Quezette.

It was a barnstorming effort from the Vlad Duric-ridden winner who was near last coming round the home bend before her huge run down the outside to run down Metastasio.

“It was all there for her to do and she did it. It was a super effort,” Duric said after the win according to AAP.

Ciaron Maher’s debutant Chloe In Paris ($10) was then half a length off Kiss A Rose in third having led throughout the early stages, while Se Sauver ($11) was just a long neck further back for fourth.

Glen Boss, who rod Saturday’s Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune to victory in the PB Lawrence Stakes on Saturday, was full of post-race praise for Exceed And Excel filly Chloe In Paris who he said would make a “really nice autumn filly.”

The win by Kiss A Rose has thrown her right into the mix for the upcoming $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) back at Caulfield on Wednesday October 16.

Moody also plans to take his Quezette Stakes fifth placegetter Spirit Of Heaven to the Thousand Guineas along with Kiss A Rose.

“For both my fillies in this race that’s the intention – to get to the Thousand Guineas,” Moody told AAP on Saturday.

“If they get to the Thousand Guineas that will be a good job but anything in the spring will be a bonus. It’s all ahead of them.”

Latest Thousand Guineas odds are led by the Peter Snowden-trained Guelph ($5) followed by Blue Diamond Stakes winner Miracles Of Life ($7.50).

After her Quezette Stakes win Kiss A Rose is still paying a juicy $21.
