San Domenico Stakes 2013 Won By Va Pensiero – Results

The three-year-old won the race by close to a length in front of second place-getter Cluster and third place runner Windjammer.

This latest win has taken Va Pensiero’s race record to two wins from six starts and has increased his prize earnings to over $140,000.

Trainer Jason Coyle was pleased to see Va Pensiero back in the winner’s stall for the first time since February.

“A couple of times (in the past) he’s been a bit unlucky,” said Coyle.

“Today it all fell into place. He was strong to the line.

“Hopefully in a few weeks we’ll be in a few of the bigger races.

“Spring’s here and hopefully we’re coming.”

Jockey Tim Clark was in the saddle for the 2013 San Domenico Stakes, providing a winning ride aboard Va Pensiero.

“(We’re) coming into a very exciting time of the year,” Clark said.

“It’s nice to be in the winner’s stall in a big race.”

Clark’s entire race plan went out the window when race favourite Whittington was scratched after an incident in the barriers.

“It probably changed the game plan a little bit with Whittington coming out,” he said.

“We weren’t going to be overly positive.

“But I thought it was probably my chance to give him a bit of a squeeze out the gates and it paid off.

“It was a good solid win.”
