Spirit Of Heaven Leads Quezette Stakes 2013 Field & Betting

One race after the boys show their stuff in the Vain Stakes a field of three-year-old fillies will face off in the 2013 Quezette Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday with Peter Moody’s hopeful Spirit Of Heaven tipped to retain her undefeated status.

Winner on debut at Sandwon in the mud back on June 12, Savabeel filly Spirit Of Boom is one of 12 chances left in contention for the $135,000 Group 3 Lister Quezette Stakes (1100m).

Running as Caulfield Race 5 at 2:40pm (AEST), the Quezette Stakes field originally had 13 final acceptors but Anthony Cummings opted to withdraw the to-rated hopeful Scandiva.

Scandiva was drawn wide with barrier 12 and her race return will be saved for a later date.

Like Scandiva is, Saturday’s top fancy Spirit Of Heaven is heading towards a run in the $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) back at Caulfield Racecourse on October 16.

While she doesn’t have the experience she does have the bookies’ tick of approval and sits at the top of the Quezette Stakes odds at a quote of $4 thanks to her nice barrier two draw with Luke Nolen to ride.

It’s a wide open top end of the market too with four other single-figure Quezette fancies with:

  • #3 Metastasio ($6) – Nice gate four draw for Peter Snowden’s Street Cry filly who will be ridden by Craig Williams as she looks to recapture her Chairman’s Stakes winning form at the track from February, bummed out when eight in the Blue Diamond but carried a big 60kg to a brave second behind Gregers in first-up this month, will appreciate coming back to 56.5kg here
  • #7 Kiss A Rose ($6.50) – Has just their second start after a winning debut at this track over 1000m back in December, another Moody-trained filly out to make an impression before the Thousand Guineas
  • #2 Montsegur ($7.50) – Daughter of New Approach prepared by Snowden, is one of the best tried here with five wins for two victories most recently in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) at Flemington in March when Williams rode, get Kerrin McEvoy here
  • #6 Swing Vote ($9.50) – Gai Waterhouse-trained Northern Meteor filly has had two runs so far, last was a third in the BD Preview behind subsequent Blue Diamond winner Miracles Of Life, poor trial performance at Randwick at the start of the month so would be wary
