Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The spring campaign of Guy Walter’s triple Group 1 winning mare Appearance has been laid out by her Warwick Farm-based trainer with a title defense in the Myer Classic 2013to wrap things up at the end of the carnival.
The Commands mare was last seen running seventh when beaten four lengths by Sacred Falls in the mud at Royal Randwick in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m).
That was a forgivable effort however on a Heavy (10) track and followed a stunning autumn for the now five-year-old.
Appearance first hit the big time last Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival when she won the $500,000 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) as a $40 outsider.
She added two more elite level trophies to Walter’s cabinet leading up to the Doncaster too.
The first was a narrow third-up effort when just holding out the Chris Waller-trained Red Tracer in the Coolmore Classic.
She backed up from that two weeks later over the same track (Rosehill) and distance (1500m) and was able to put half a length on Red Tracer, runner-up again, this time in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes.
Now it’s all systems go for another spring raid with Appearance heading towards the Myer Classic run at Flemington Racecourse on Saturday November 2 as part of the elite Victoria Derby Day racing action.
She’s set to kick off her latest prep at Warwick Farm on Saturday week in the $125,000 Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m).
Walter then has two more runs at home in Sydney scheduled before she’s off to Victoria.
Second-up she’ll run in the $200,000 Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill on September 14 and then she’ll run in the $250,000 Group 3 Research Stakes (1400m), formerly the Golden Pendant, back at the track a fortnight later.
In Melbourne her first run will be the $220,000 Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Caulfield Cup Day, October 19, and that will serve as a her final lead-up to the Myer Classic.
“Appearance will run in the Show County, the Theo Marks and the Golden Pendant then head to Melbourne for the Tristarc and the Myer,” Walter confirmed to AAP this week.
Another multiple Group 1 winning mare gearing up for a spring return for Walter is then Streama.
The Stratum five-year-old was last seen running second to Red Tracer in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) in Brisbane back on June 22.
Third before that in the Stradbroke Handicap, Streama trialed last week and won her 900m hitout at Rosehill with Hugh Bowman aboard.
She’s now set to run first-up in the $175,000 Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) on August 24.
Streama is set to race exclusively in Sydney this spring with her first major assignment scheduled as the $500,000 Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick on October 5.
“Streama will stay in Sydney in the spring unless the weather intervenes,” Walter said.
