Montsegur among 2013 Quezette Stakes Nominations

Peter Snowden’s Group 3 winning filly Montsegur is one of the more notable nominations taken for this Saturday’s Quezette Stakes 2013 at Caulfield Racecourse for P.B. Lawrence Stakes Day.

Open to three-year-old fillies, many of which are heading towards some of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival elite levels, this year’s $135,000 Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) drew 19 early entries.

New Approach filly Montsegur is one of the top rated hopes as she resumes racing ahead of a possible run in the $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) back at the track on Wednesday October 16.

Sixth to Miracles Of Life, who won’t be resuming in the Quezette as originally intended, in the Blue Diamond Stakes here in February Montsegur was last seen winning the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on March 9.

Second in that race was the David Hayes-trained Shamardal filly Bulbula who is also among the Quezette Stakes nominations.

Bulbula backed up from that with two more runs, her last a close third behind The Voice when travelling over to Adelaide for the Group 3 SA Sires’ Produce Stake Stakes (1400m) in April.

Another top chance on Saturday is the Anthony Cummings-trained Scandiva who actually has the highest rating with 88.

A daughter of boom Aussie sire Fastnet Rock, Scnadiva enjoyed a Group 2 win last March at Rosehill winning the Magic Night Stakes before her stellar effort to finish under a length away second to Guelph in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

She stepped up to the mile after that for a shot at the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) in her latest run but could only manage to finish ninth to Guelph who completed the double.

Also in the mix are the likes of two undefeated Peter Moody-trained fillies with Kiss A Rose and Spirit Of Heaven who both won their race debuts over 1000m, and the Gerald Ryan-trained Snitzel filly Snitzel’s Jewel.

The complete list of Quezette Stakes 2013 nominees are listed below with final acceptances set for release on Wednesday.
