A quality list of nominations were taken for Saturday’s 2013 Regal Roller Stakes earlier in the week with a bumper list of entries for the Caulfield feature.
Running as one of the five black types on the PB Lawrence Stakes Day program, the $120,000 Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) this year attracted 24 nominations.
The top-rated and weighted entry is from the Sydney stables of Peter Snowden with his Exceed And Excel gelding Bello allocated a hefty 60kg.
Winner of the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap (1400m) back in March, Bello was last seen posting another win this time at Flemington in one of the heats of the All Victorian Sprint on June 8 where they proved they could carry 60kg to victory.
Following the Regal Roller Stakes nominations and weights are then the David Hayes-trained Pago Rock (59kg) and Sea Lord (58kg) for Stephen Brown.
Rock Of Gibraltar six-year-old Pago Rock won three of their opening four stars for the year including the Listed Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield in mid-July.
If accepted on the weekend they will be out to improve on their last start fifth to Second Effort in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) but could struggle with the 59kg after carrying 58.5kg for their last two runs.
Sea Lord is another six-year-old coming via the Bletchingly, the Group 2 Australia Stakes winning Street Cry gelding having run eighth in that race third-up.
Victoria’s premier trainer Peter Moody then has a high number of entries with five hopefuls in the mix the headliner of which is his Redoute’s Choice gelding Strawberry Boy (56.5kg).
The flying five-year-old was formerly prepared by Gai Waterhouse before her falling out with their prominent owner John Singleton.
They have twice raced under Moody’s name winning both of their starts back in May and will be looking to continue their perfect record for their new trainer in the Regal Roller.
Moody’s other more notable hopes are then four-year-old Redoute’s Choice stallion High Esteem after their fourth on the trot having last been seen winning the Listed Adelaide Guineas over 1800m on April 13, and the former John Thompson-trained Kneeling.
High Esteem and Kneeling are both dual nominees for the weekend having also been entered for the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) and the Group 3 WW Cockram Stakes (1200m) respectively.
Other notable nominees then include Bletchingly Stakes runner-up Academy Jack, stakes winning mare Serene Star and Our Miss Jones racing for the first time since a season ending injury at Moonee Valley a year ago.
