Flemington trainer Nigel Blackiston is excited about the race return of his nice mare You’re So Good at Caulfield this Saturday as the four-year-old heads towards a shot at the Myer Classic 2013 this Melbourne Cup Carnival.
A winner of two of her six starts to date the daughter of Savabeel enjoyed a black type win at Moonee Valley back in March when winning the Listed Alexandra Stakes (1600m).
She was even more impressive before that at Flemington however.
At just her third career start she came within a nose of winning the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m) in February when just nudged out of the win by Alzora.
From there she went up against the boys in the prestigious Group 1 Australian Guineas over the mile and was defeated only half a length by Ferlax.
Most recently You’re So Good was seen finishing a below par eight to Norzita in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill on Golden Slipper Day when failing to handle the 2000m for the first time on a Slow (7) track.
Blackiston was quick to forgive that run and believes there’s plenty more for race fans to see from You’re So Good this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
She is set to run first-up on Saturday in the $150,000 Group 3 W.W. Cockram Stakes (1200m).
It should be a red hot edition of the mares-only feature too despite the confirmed non-acceptance of Thousand Guineas winner Commanding Jewel who will be saved until August 31.
While it’s a little short of her preferred distance, Blackiston believes You’re So Good is a genuine chance in the Cockram, where she’ll be ridden by Michael Walker, based on her two recent gallops including a win in the wet last Friday at Flemington.
“When she goes out she always gives her best every time. She’ll run a super race, hopefully,” he told AAP.
After the Cockram it will be onwards and upwards through the grades for You’re So Good who Blackiston is hoping can go all the way to the $500,000 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day, Saturday November 2.
“She’ll go there (the Cockram) and then we’ll hopefully head to the Let’s Elope and then we can determine which way we go for the rest of the carnival,” Blackiston said.
“The Myer Classic will be the main goal but there’s some nice races in between.”
The $220,000 Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) runs at Flemington on September 7.
