Bull Point Tops The Rosebud 2013 Betting Odds

Gai Waterhouse’s young Caulfield Guineas – Cox Plate nominee Bull Point has opened favourite for their black type debut on Saturday topping the 2013 The Rosebud odds for the Royal Randwick showdown.

There are just nine three-year-olds left in contention for the $100,000 Listed The Rosebud (1200m), running as Randwick Race 6 at 3:30pm (AEST), after the early scratching of #7 Dream Forward.

Of the remaining hopefuls, many of which are using the race as a spring lead-up to the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on September 14, it is Fastnet Rock colt Bull Point ($3.10) who the bookies fancy.

A winner of two of their three starts to date they were last seen putting an easy three lengths on their rivals in a 1200m at Rosehill on July 20.

Regular rider Nash Rawiller is replaced by Tommy Berry on Saturday, Rawiller to ride the in-form Allan Denham-trained Watabout in the same race, with Bull Point in line to get a lovely run from barrier two.

Hot on their heels in a tight The Rosebud betting market is then $3.50 second elect Eurozone.

The James & Bart Cummings co-trained Northern Meteor colt is undefeated with two wins from as many starts so far.

Their latest was a three quarter length effort over Bull Point on July 6 before the latter went on for their three length effort.

Eurozone is also nominated for the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) in Melbourne this October with their early form in races like The Rosebud to determine whether they’ll be a genuine hope at the mile classic.

Two other The Rosebud hopefuls are then also under $10 with Rawiller’s mount Watabout ($4) and Northern Glory ($9) to be ridden by veteran hoop Jim Cassidy.

More Than Ready filly Watabout shoots for her fourth win on the trot with the Wyong-based flyer’s only loss being her third on debut at Gosford back in May.

She was last seen winning by two lengths over 1300m at Randwick on July 27 on a Slow (6) so could be the surprise package here.

Northern Glory meanwhile is one of the most experienced in this field with six starts to date.

Also prepared by Waterhouse, the Northern Meteor filly won at Randwick in the mud two back and was a brave third behind Watabout last start when stepping up to 1300m for the first time with 59kg.

She’s back to the 1200m here and while she’s still got a big weight (58kg), she meets Watabout equal after he had only 56.5kg on their back for their win last time they met.
