I’m Too Sexy Makes Eyes at Thousand Guineas 2013

Former promising juvenile I’m Too Sexy is ready to make her new season return in Melbourne this weekend ahead of a possible shot at the 2013 Thousand Guineas in October.

The now three-year-old Mark Riley-trained Reaan filly made the right mark on her debut last November at Ballarat with a big three length victory in the Magic Millions Clockwise Classic.

She failed to live up to that same potential when taken to the bigger races in Brisbane however.

In December she was beaten over 16 lengths when 11th, beating home just one rival in the Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Doomben.

She was even more disappointing at her next run at the Gold Coast on January 12 when breaking down in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) finishing over 30 lengths away dead last behind the winner Real Surreal.

Hampered by her bad feet during those disastrous Brisbane efforts I’m Too Sexy has been working hard ahead of her return which will happen in the second at Moonee Valley on Saturday – the $80,000 Aquanas Foods BM78 Handicap (1000m).

“In hindsight, we shouldn’t have chased the two million-dollar race but you only get one crack at it,” Riley told AAP.

“She had won very well at Ballarat so we took her to Queensland but she had problems with her feet up there and was never one hundred per cent.

“Her feet are right again, we’ve had no problems with her and she’s going to the races fit and well.

“She hasn’t taken any harm from it (her extended spell).

“She’s had a good spell and she’s going into Saturday looking really well.

“We always thought she would be better as a three-year-old.”

While this weekend’s race has drawn just six three-year-old fillies it could prove a telling spring lead-up with some smart types engaged.

Early favourites are Peter Snowden’s Listed Chairman’s Stakes winner Metastasio ($2.40), the David Hayes-trained Gregers ($3.20) last seen running fourth in the Blue Diamond Stakes and the Peter Moody-trained Blue Diamond Preview runner-up Diamond Glow ($4.60).

All of these, along with I’m Too Sexy ($13), are early hopes for one of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival’s premier races for their kind with connections looking at the $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield Racecourse on Wednesday October 16.

This weekend I’m Too Sexy will be ridden by the in-form Patrick Moloney who enjoyed a winning double at Sandown last Sunday, a real plus according to Riley.

“He is riding fantastic,” the Mornington-based trainer said.

“I think he is one of the up-and-coming young jockeys.”

2013 Thousand Guineas nominations are due out on Tuesday and will be published right here at Races.com.au.
